Here are some of the highlights of break:
- enjoying amazing amounts of time with family
- staying up late and sleeping in...i LOVE my sleep
- playing games
- watching Cole open his presents. He is at such a fun age for this.
- watching football
- relaxing and just hanging out (it's nice to not live and die by the bell like at school)
- eating great meals...homemade pizza (thanks Ryan and Tyler for cooking), Gusano's Pizza twice, tacos (thanks for the new recipe, Becky!), homemade soup, BBQ from Smokin' Joes=amazing, Christmas treats like party mix and puppy chow, pork chops, and on and on...love me some good food!
- watching Matt hang out with his brothers. The 3 of them together are pretty fun.
- doing a puzzle at, one point with my parents, Matt's parents, and Ryan ---that is STILL not done by the way. Hardest puzzle ever! There will definitely be pictures to come when that bad boy is finished!!! And stayin up with Becky until 3 am to work on it. Probably not the wisest decision, but we sure had FUN, didn't we!?!?!

- playing Mario A LOT
- learning to play Carcassone...only played it a couple hundred times already.
It started with a week off to get random things done like cleaning that was long overdue, a dentist appointment, and unpacking the remaining boxes. A big thanks to my hubby for just plowing through the boxes with me to get them either unpacked or tucked away in our attic. It feels SO nice to have our house unpacked for the first time since we've been married!!! YES!!! I had a cookie baking day with my mom, sister, and Cole. Such a fun memory! Cole was a great helper at cutting out cookies, and even better at helping to eat them up. Smart kid!
Christmas Eve was very special because Fellowship has two different style services--one for families with kiddos and one that is much more traditional. It was fun for us to sit with my parents, Chris, Wendi, Cole, and Mindi....all eyes were on Cole. He loved the music and lights, and especially the glow sticks that kids get to use instead of candles. It's fun to see Christmas through a child's eyes, and he sure takes it all in. He's so sweet!!!
Christmas Eve night MK and I got snowed in with my parents because we got some ice with snow on top of it. We postponed the Nervig Christmas due to the weather, so we enjoyed a great breakfast that my mom cooked and had a great day of playing games with my parents. So relaxing!
My parents flew out to Arizona to visit family the next day, and the Kleppes also arrived that day. It was so fun to see them. We did Saturday night church, Gusano's Pizza, and then our family Christmas that night. We were so blessed by very thoughtful gifts. Thanks guys!!!!!!!
Even though MK had to work part of that week, he did a great job of making the most of our time together with his family, especially at night. The Kleppes are so fun and easy to be around. We played lots of games, watched plenty of football, watched some movies, and just hung out. That first week of break I hadn't been feeling the greatest, so Ryan and I went to the doctor together and found out we both had sinus infections. Each with a prescription for Amoxicillin, we walked out of the doc's office as happy campers! Little did we know what was to come...
The middle of the week the Kleppe fam (minus me) got food poisoning--bad!!!! Oh man, did I feel bad for everyone. Not exactly what I (or they) had in mind for our time together. They were troopers, and after a day of just taking it easy, all was well again. We think the culprit was a fresh pineapple that we cut up because it was the one thing that I didn't eat that everyone else had. Word to the wise: Cut the outside of a pineapple with one knife, and use a different knife for the inside. This prevents contaminating the inside of the pineapple, which is what we think we did! Live and learn, folks. Needless to say, we threw the second pineapple away and didn't even touch it!!!
Bob, thanks for letting us watch your Mission Impossible DVD's, teaching us Sheepshead, and being such a servant to fix our tire, take out the trash, and just run errands for us when we're together.
Becky, thanks for your servant heart...cooking, cleaning up, washing dishes, making coffee...the list goes on and on! Thanks for playing endless games of Carcassone with me! You're a good sport. Thanks for being my refuge from the endless hours of watching football. It's so fun to hang out with you (that puzzle sure was fun, but B*R*U*T*A*L...let's pick an easier one next time! haha!)
Ryan and Tyler, thanks for making us laugh constantly, for helping me to beat impossible levels in Mario, and for always being up for playing games. Your servant hearts (especially cooking and helping in the kitchen) do not go unnoticed!! I love watching you three brothers hang out...so fun. You guys are unreal! :)
Our time with the Kleppes was memorable in lots of ways, and I'm so grateful for the TIME together. Time is just something we don't enough of with MK's family, so it was a lot of fun. Love you guys!!!
We celebrated New Years Day by having both our families over for food, board games, bowl game watching, and we even started a puzzle. It was a great day to all be together! :) (Becky and I even stayed up super late working on that darn puzzle until about 3am. It's still not finished, but I'm working on it!!!!)
After the Kleppes left, we had the Nervig Christmas, which was postponed until my parents got back from Arizona. It was so fun to be together and watch Cole open presents for his first Christmas as a "big boy" who is super independent, unwrapping all his gifts by himself! He knew JUST what to do. He was super sweet and thoroughly looked over each and every gift as he opened them before moving on to the next. He's so sweet. We were again blessed by some great gifts. Thanks family!!! It was so fun to all be together. Again, I so value our TIME together.
Chris and Wendi, thanks so much for sharing Cole with us. Thanks for splitting your time between both families at Christmas and for hanging out on New Years! We love hanging out with ya'll!
Cole, it was so fun to watch you open gifts this Christmas. You are so so sweet, and we love playing with you. You are going to make such a great big brother! I hope you enjoy all your cars, blocks, and books that you got. We love you, buddy!
Dad, Thanks for hanging out and playing all those games.....even when you might not always want to (like Monopoly?!?). You are such a good sport, and you always know how to make me laugh. :)
Mom, Thanks for cooking and making holidays so special. You are so thoughtful and make it fun to be at your house, just as if I was still a little kid at Christmas. It was so fun to get snowed in with ya'll!! We love spending time with ya'll!
But one of the greatest gifts is being able to reflect on the great gifts that can't be wrapped and put under the tree. Christmas is just such a special time!!!
Time for laughs.
Time for good food.
Time for playing.
Time for resting.
Time for renewal.
Time for watching football.
Time to be together as a family.
And still the greatest of these is the gift of our Savior. Wow. He's the only being who has tasted heaven and still chosen to come to earth, which is definitely not a choice I would like to make. There is no greater gift. Thank you, Lord, for sending your Son.
